101 projects that use only a yard of fabric!

Monday, January 4, 2010 6 Comments Filed Under: Blog, Things I've Made

I know what you are probably thinking…”what great thing can you make with just a yard of fabric?” Well, let me introduce you to the newest addition to my “favorites list” now available at Maisonnette.  One-Yard Wonders by Rebecca Yanker and Patricia Hoskins has 101 sewing projects that only take a yard of fabric each!  I too was skeptical, that each amazingly cute project takes ONLY a yard of fabric, but it’s true, seriously, for real!

Since my brother’s brithday is on Wednesday, and I’ve been on a make-all-my-gifts kick, I figure why stop now?   I decided to try my hand at this nifty hanging pocket organizer. Since my brother loved the quilt I made him for Christmas I thought I would stick with a fabric I know he will like.  I made this gift in about an hour which made it all the more fun!! Now all I need to do is put two giant grommets at the top corners so he can hang it.  I think I need to make one for myself because apparently it makes for a great pattern organizer!
Right now I’m making this super easy, and cute pinafore! The only thing stopping me from finishing it tonight is the fact I just ran out of thread!! ugh! (note to self: need a thread stash at home!).
Here’s some more pictures of some of the other projects in the book.

Oh guess what!? I took all these photos with my new iPhone! Not to shabby ehh? I can e-mail the photos to my computer as I take them or blog straight from my phone! I’m turning into a total phone geek!
oh well…xoxo Madeline

I need that book! My stash is seriously out of control. Out. Of. Control. I keep telling myself no, and I don't listen very well. Love your projects! :-) I have a thread stash that has saved ne headaches many a time… I highly recommend it. :-)

This is a really cool book – the wall hanger is awesome. Did you make it out of a cotton fabric or oil cloth? I am seeing one in some of Anna Maria's oilcloth in my head. These would be perfect for this really big problem I have at come called "Where to put the mail" xo!

I used an upholstery weight cotton to do this. Ooo the oil cloth would be great for this!! You could also use a normal quilting weight but you would need to interface it. Hmm but if you were just using it for light stuff like mail maybe you wouldn't need to : )
