Her nine patch quilt!!!
She’s quite proud of it, and I like it too! This is her first completed quilt, and she has another one in the making. For years my mom has made the statement “I don’t sew” part of her identity. For years she has been quite proud of that statement, so how sewing became part of my identity is still a mystery! I enjoy many aspects of the arts like drawing, woodworking, and painting but sewing has captivated me the most, and just won’t let me go! We have come to the conclusion that for some people it is just “in you” from the start, and for others the love of sewing is developed through beautiful fabric and projects available now.
My Mom being at Maisonnette all day was like a non-candy-eater working at a candy store. She loved the candy because it was so beautiful and one day she tried it, and now she wants to eat candy all day!
Oh ya… did I mention that she has stolen my Elna Quilting Queen?! ; )
You didn’t think I would show you this beautiful baby quilt without giving you a tutorial, did you!? Well here it is! This tutorial shows you how to make one nine patch, the quilt my Mom made has 4, nine patches sewn together with about a 3″ border around it for the perfect baby quilt size! You can make your nine patch quilt as big or as small as you’d like just by continuing to add nine patches.
Charm packs work great for this because they are already cut into 5”x 5” squares…my Mom used Heather Bailey charm packs and Amy Butler for the boarder.

I've wanted to make a 9-patch for a long time now and never have. Your mom's is inspiring!
Oh that quilt charms me…. beautiful!
Gorgeous quilt, and I love that you gave instructions for it! This is on my to-do list…. someday!
