Easy to work with, and because of the nature of the fabric… breezy!! Cotton voile, you complete me!
I’ve found two simplicity patterns that work great with Anna Maria’s new line of cotton voiles! I made the simplicity #3887 tunic to be more of a long shirt so it could be worn with leggings by adding 5 inches to the hem. I was impressed by this pattern because it can be made up in just a couple hours, and it can be altered so easily! One could completely change the look just by adding a fabric waist tie, lengthening, shortening, adding elastic here or there…the possibilities are endless, which means you get more for your money!! I think the voile was the best choice for the long sleeve variation of the pattern because it has such a nice drape… regular cotton might have made the arms a little too poofy! I’m not sure how well I would pull that look off… haha!
The other pattern that has really captivated me is simplicity # 2497 by designer Cynthia Rowley. It’s surprisingly stylish without changing anything! Even the picture on the front of the envelope is cute! Whenever I use the commercial patterns ( Simplicity, McCall’s, Vogue…) there is always something I have to change to stop it from looking like I made it in 6th grade home economics!! It really comes down to one’s choice in fabric that takes the look from being “home made” to “hand made”. The voile is a no-brainer because it drapes so darn nicely!!
Both fabrics are called ”Baby Bouquet” from the “Little Folks” collection. The tunic is the Berry color, the dress is the Dusk color, and both are avalible at Maisonnette or visit our online shop here
