A beautiful scarf made by my lovely cousin Emily! The fabric is a cotton, double gauze, by Japanese designer, Nani Iro. The frayed edges give this scarf a relaxed look while the ruffle at each end give it a feminine soft look that will carry her well into spring!!
Here’s a very brief, non-detailed, explanation of how to make the ruffle scarf:
1. decide how wide you want your scarf, then cut 4 lengths of 43″ double gauze fabric.
2. make 2, long lengths, by sewing 2, 43″ lengths together, right sides together at short ends.
3. now put wrong sides together matching up all the sides.
4. with embroidery floss, hand sew around the perimeter of your scarf with your desired stitch….
5. now make a knot at the end of your embroidery floss and stitch up the center (long ways) stopping at desired point and pull thread to make ruffle
Voila!! Now you have a beautiful handmade scarf, sure to be the envy of any fashionista!
The double gauze is the perfect weight for a scarf, and the loose weave of the fabric makes it easy to get your needle and embroidery floss through. This particular double gauze by Nani Iro, comes in two amazingly beautiful colors that have a hand painted look to them.
For an even lighter weight scarf, you can use a single thickness of double gauze. This would work particularly well with the ivory version of the double gauze because the difference between the wrong and write sides of this fabric are not as noticeable.
